Is this a current amp 3BSST
« on: 23 Jul 2015, 01:28 am »
Have a chance to pick up a 3BSST that is a demo for $2100. Is this
different than a 3BSST2 and is it worth the asking price.

Thanks in advance
Don

The SST series is different from the SST2 series.  Make sure it is an authorized dealer (http://bryston.com/pages/warranty.html) or was built before (amp date code - see link I posted) the change in warranty policy.  Here is one (not sure of the date code) for about half - http://app.audiogon.com/listings/solid-state-bryston-3b-sst-silver-2015-07-21-amplifiers-75252-dallas-tx  and here is an SST2 - http://app.audiogon.com/listings/solid-state-bryston-3bsst2-new-2015-07-22-amplifiers-t5w3c3

Price seems a little high, I bought mine (and have seen other 3BSSTs) go for around $1500-$1700 (CDN $). Mine had 12 years of warranty remaining when I bought it.

The unit is in a brick and mortar and listed as a demo with full warranty.
What years was it in manufacture?

Thanks

It (the ST) was probably phased out a bit more before the comments in this thread - https://www.gearslutz.com/board/high-end/182598-bryston.html

The date code on the amp will give you the date of manufacture.  I currently own a 3BST and have owned a 4BST (which I got new probably in the late 1990s) and did also own the 6BSST and the 14BSST and bought each of those lightly used just under a year old around the latter part of 2003.  So the SST series had been around probably since 2002 give or take.

Again - here is the Bryston warranty policy - http://www.bryston.com/pages/warranty.html.  Warranty is "are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for twenty (20) years from the original date of manufacture."
