MGIII - upgrades and preventative maintenance
« on: 23 Jun 2015, 07:36 pm »
Back about 5 months ago, I bought a used pair of MGIII for $300 that are sonically in perfect shape. They were stored for the last 10 years in a storage facility, away form the sun and completely unplayed, so there is currently no delamination or buzzes. They currently sound really good.

I am preparing to upgrade some x-over components, replace the socks and doing some structural improvements. While I have them open, I was wondering, is there anything I can do, proactively, to prevent possible future delamination?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Seems like the perfect time to put on a light coating of Weldwood DAP on the last six inches of the top and bottom of each wire.

Thanks!

That is the kind of recommendation I was looking for.

Can I just apply it over the top of the wires as they are?

I cleaned the old adhesive off the parts which were delaminating and curling up, but I just did a light coating over the areas which were still intact. That DAP is good stuff.
