This year I had a plan to take the train from Toronto instead of showing up in airport for some relaxing time and stay a few days in Montreal but it won't happen now.
I heard the news and total of 16 email a week ago and I cancelled everything.
I was 23 years old when I attended to this show for the first time and I did attended for total of 16 years. While a lot of people have mixed feeling and could be disagree with me, Montreal is the best city in north America and I would always go there no matter if there is a show or not. I have a lot of friends and there is always a place for me.
IMO, selling the SSI to Chester group was a wrong move to make. More power and wish the best of luck to Michel Plante and his wife Sarah for their thought and I hope they will succeed.
I still can see the problem exist!
Why nonprofit when reasonable prices would welcome any manufactures specially when dealers are closing!
Free admission!!!!
Who could not afford $15 or $20?
And is this the same guy that want to spend $10000 for a amp?!

Hi PRELUDE,
I did many times Montreal - Toronto - Montreal by train
and even if takes much longer, I find more relaxing to travel by train
and the train stations at both ends are downtown.
A friend of mine (Pierre Ayotte owner of AudioClub St-Hubert street, Montreal)
closed the door after 40 years in business...
Of course I am biased saying that I agree with you that Montreal is the best city
in the whole North Amarica,
that because I am a Montrealer, born, raised and stayed more than 45 years here.
I think if I go to Image & Son or whatever they will call it, I will be disapointed.

Hi Steven,
just a few months ago.
Actualy Pierre is now legally blind,
plus he's been operated twice for a cancer tumor in the head.
I saw him at Notre-Dame hospital after his first operation a few months back.
After his second operation, I did not see him,
but according to someone that did, he was not doing to good.
When he was still trying to hold the fort while blind,
I helped him and spend many days with him at his store.
He fired his associate Richard and his technician Michel left,
so he was alone with me, then his tumor
made him very unstable, he insulted me several time,
but I knew he was sick, so I ignored those insults and kept helping him.
The problem is that he lost his two main lines LINN and B&W
and the rent for his store was more than 5,000CND$ per month with very few customers.
Very sad.

I was a customer and friend of Pierre for 35 years.

Hi Guy,
Train is great and I love the both ends at downtown. Makes the life much easier.

WOW, that's really sad news...  :(

I had bought a full Linn Akurate system from Pierre and he always went out of his way to please his customers but I never liked his partner Richard.  Whenever, I would visit the store and Richard would be by himself, I would just walk out.  Went I bought my Linn Akurate system from Pierre, he was so busy at the store that he had sent Richard with some student to my place to deliver and set up the system.  Richard had done such a crap job installing my system (some of the shelves in my audio rack [bought from Audio Club] were not level or had three spikes instead of four that the shelf would be wobbly).  I spoke to Pierre and he personally came over to rectify my issue.  This was back in 2004.

After Pierre had left for medical reasons (now I see why), Richard would be running the store and I had tried several times to deal with Richard for some upgrades but he was so unprofessional that I ended up selling off my whole Linn Akurate system.  I just couldn't deal with Richard...  :nono:

Hi Samurai...
For installation you should have asked for Michel Pitre he was the installation guy.
But, all that now is thing of the past, too bad.
I bought my Naim + B&W + Nakamichi + Linn LP12 system
from Pierre around 1980 when Audio Club was at it's peak...

Hi Guy

I am sorry to hear this as well - Pierre was a dealer of ours for many years as well in the beginning of Bryston.  It looks like our generation is moving on.  I miss the simple stereo days a lot.

James, is there any information online concerning the "new" Montreal Audio Show?

I haven't been able to find any information...
