Perfect small room theater system.

I am really digging this new set up in my bedroom.

We put a new flat screen TV in the bedroom and the sound of coarse was horrible.

I tried building various wall mounted speakers that even included an open baffle on wall design with a single LGK driver and a pair of M-165 woofers all on an open baffle. Nothing on the wall really worked out well. The wall really tends to destroy the accuracy of the frequency response of everything. What measured really well though was the LGK 1.0 design moved out from the wall. The further out you move it the better it gets too. And the LGK 1.0's are great for a small room. The limited off axis dispersion of a small driver like the LGK's are a blessing for an untreated listening area like a bedroom.

I have tall ceilings so I mounted the left and right speakers up high. They are also just high enough for me to not hit my head on them if I stumble through there in the middle of the night.

I also picked up one of these receivers for next to nothing.

I paid $179 for it brand new in the box. How can they build all of that, sell it to a store, the store sells it to me for next to nothing and everyone makes a profit?

I admit there isn't a receiver out there that is even in the ballpark of what I am used to listening to in my audio system. But for almost nothing in cost, it's not bad at all. And it's perfect for this application.

Now I need to hook up a Direct TV receiver, DVD player, and hide some wiring...

And I am thinking about adding a small sub.... :thumb:

Now THAT's a down and dirty low-cost bedroom system that everyone can afford.  :thumb:

Love the tissue box - having grown up in Texas, I can appreciate when it's allergy season!

The tissue box was actually a joke. I set it up there to show my wife how we were sharing that bedroom wall. See honey, you have stuff on that wall too.

Danny,

I can't tell from the picture...just how far out from the wall are the LGKs positioned? What sort of mounting hardware did you use for the L/R speakers?

The back of the speakers are 4" from the wall. I am using some brackets that I got from MaxCast many years ago. They worked out perfect for the LGK's.

Then a jewelry box might have been better than a tissue box  :o

What are you thinking about for a sub to go with these?

Maybe you could put it in the tissue box!   :)

Bedroom systems can be tough (by the time you get furniture and a bed in the room, there usually is not an abundance of room for audio stuff).  In my old house I went through probably 5 different audio/video set-ups over a 17 year period and then settled on the first shot below.  The big TV I liked but looked really big in the room.  I opted for in-ceilings when I had the new house built and a 92 inch screen that folds into the ceiling (I do have a 32 inch TV if I just want to watch the news) - second pic (and for me it works better and I'll live with the audio shortcomings).

Flipping your L&R speakers upside down would align the drivers with the center of the screen.
I have found this alignment helps create the illusion that the sound emanates from the screen itself.

Away from the wall also works best for me, I ended up with my center channel suspended from the ceiling with Bessey parallel bar clamps, strictly man cave stuff.

Good thinking Shawn. I'll give that a try.

Replace your bed's box springs with a 76" x 80 x 10" enclosure and populate it with down firing drivers. You have available about 25 cubic feet net for a king size bed or about 20 cubic feet net for a queen.  :icon_twisted:
