I am looking for 2 pairs of balanced cables and would like to keep the cost under $1200. New or used cables are fine.

One pair from my Esoteric DV50 to my Pass X-1 and the other pair from the X-1 to the Blue Circle BC26MKII

Please recommend some balanced cables that fit in this price range.

Thank you

That's an easy one...

VH Audio Pulsars with Furutech Rhodium xlr connectors.  These have outperformed Argent Audio Pursang, Acoustic Zen Silver Ref I and II, and some very expensive Purist Audio Design (can't remmber the model but it was something like $1500-2000/meter).

I am in the process of auditioning the RSA Poiema!!, which will meet your price criteria as well.  Check back for a formal rewview in the coming weeks.

BTW, I have posted a review on the Pulsars here and at AA.

Are you still using custom cables? Also, what cables have you tried, and what kind of sound are you looking for?

Slinkylinks probably has a real nice set of pure silver cables that could suit your needs. http://www.slinkylinks.net/index_flash.html

JPS Labs probably also has a very nice set of balanced cables.

A local dealer let me borrow 2 pairs of Harmonic Tech pro Silway IIs. I think that is what they are called. I am not a big cable kind of guy.

I guess the best cable would be no cable. I am looking for a smooth top end but not rolled off. The Harmonic Techs got the job done. Just wondering what else is out there in that price range that people have used with success.

PS Audio cables.  I think Music Direct is still having their half off sale.  Excellent cables, and at half off they are a steal.

hmmm

How are those PS Audio Statements? 1m is only $179.

How do they compare with Cardas Golden Ref or VH Pulsar?

I am not a big fan of Cardas or PS Audio.

IMHO, you can do much better.

I've only compared the PS Audios to other cables in a showroom, not at home.  In the showroom, they were compared to Kimber, Audioquest, and Transparent.  I do not care for any of those.  As always, those are to my ears. YMMV.

What I like about the PS Audios is that (as with many cables) you can try them out for 30 days and return them if you're not down with them.  Since they're on sale, it's hard to be beat!

I think you just have to listen to them to see if you like them.  I've turned a lot of my friends on to them and they've all stuck with them.  One even ditched all his other cables (many different brands) and went all PS Audio.

I did go with the Plus XLRs because the Statements were way too thick.
