Man, this thing sounds good
« on: 20 May 2015, 07:01 pm »
After spending way too many hours setting up my Amadeus GTA, many due to my own incompetence at following directions (granted, the directions could be a bit more precise), I have to say, I'm smitten.  This is by far the most fluid sounding and transparent turntable I've heard.  It has very little obvious character of its own, so the music comes through unimpeded.  I've owned a few very good high-end turntables that got many things right, but compared to the WT, they sound like they're trying too hard.  And, for what it's worth, I find the appearance elegant. Form follows function.

You are certainly "singing from the same hymn sheet" as many members of this forum Clave. I use a very expensive Dynavector cartridge, as does Charlie (threadkiller). We have found our WTL decks have just got better and better as we've improved the cartridge. The sky is the limit for an Amadeus or Versalex. That is evidence of just how good these decks are. The Linn LP12 is by far the most popular turntable this side of the pond. Many owners spend more on a power supply for their deck than the new price of the latest spec Amadeus. I wonder how many of those guys would be doing so had they heard our decks. Only a handful of WTL dealers here in the UK sadly.

Well said, both of you! Brava!

Clave, your spindle got too warm. The platter will let go a bit. Tap lightly and it will go back in where you need it to be. Keep the table out of strong direct sunlight or heat source. I doubt any of us play our records near the kitchen stove, although it would be nice when cooking and entertaining- easier to flip a record, or an omelet..
Carry on...

I agree. I had never really heard differences between tables (not easy to compare with the same cartridge in the same system, etc.). I brought my old table to my dealer and played some records, and then moved the Amadeus in and also moved the cart.
The difference surprised the heck out of me. Granted, the old table was about 1/2 the cost, but still there really was such a huge difference it was stunning.
As far as the appearance and function, I love it. Quirky is cool!
