I recently acquired a pair of Martin Logan Neolith's (their new flagship speaker). These speakers are rated to handle 1300 watts per channel so in testing I have been pushing amps to their max including my 28B-SST^2's. When I put on Drake's "I started from the Bottom" about 10 minutes into the album the 28's red lights came on flashing like Christmas is coming soon. When I came to this same point the McIntosh MC1.2KW's were gently shut down by protective circuitry.

Do the 28B's have a shutdown mechanism or am I left diving for the remote?

First, congrats on being a member of a rarified club that clips kilowatt amplifiers. The flashing red LED just tells you you're clipping. The amp will play into clipping periodically without damage but the speakers might not like it too well. Eventually the amp will shut down due to thermal overload but it will do so gracefully. You really should consider biamping though. Maybe 7B on top, 28s on the bottom. Or 28s all the way around.

Yes. The Neoliths are tri-ampable, correct? Stack three 7B's per speaker.

Wow, overloading both the mighty 28's and 1.2's, impressive...well if it wasn't for the chance of damaging the speakers.

The bi-amping suggestions are a good idea to try.
