Look into a restored Fisher KX-200.  I had one, and sounds VERY good.  I prefer the sound of the Fisher to the Scott units.  Th 6U8 tube in the Scott units is the limiting factor, IMHO.

You might consider this Bottlehead Stereomour, this is what I run (with mods) and love, great tone and liquidy.  I have a small room but I found the 3.5 watts to be more than enough driving my GR Research V1s at around 96dB efficient.  Of course YMMV and all of that.  One note, the stock Stereomour only has 3 sets of inputs.

edit: The Stereomour only drove the coax of my V1s, so only 200 Hz and up.

Good luck,
Ed

1. Buy gear that is not and does not need mods.
2.  Buy gear with a good resale value.  Buy used.  Current model.
3.  Buy one, try it out and do that several times until you fall in love.

Brands I love in your price point:  Decware.  I would also look at the coincident integrated.
