There's a Ghost in My Subwoofer!
« on: 6 Apr 2015, 05:04 pm »
I'm just not sure where this one belongs, so here it is in Solid State.

When my preamp is on and volume is barely on (7 o'clock) and the amplifier is turned off, there is a noticeable feed going into my sub. It doesn't matter if the source is my Mac Mini or my Squeezebox Touch - it's definitely there. And, yes, it gets louder if I turn up the volume. My preamp is an AVA T8.

I figure I've done something wrong. You know, one of those noob mistakes where I thought I had used the right connection, but ....I have a single cable running from the red connector line out '2' to my sub's red line in.

Is this normal? Should I make offerings to the music spirits? Or should I have a glass of wine and go with the flow?

Thanks anyone.

Michael

RFI?  Do you live near radio and/or TV transmitters?  Tried a different cable?  How about a different type of wine 8)

I forgot pertinent information. I get the ghost sound from the source. If a song is playing on the SBT, I hear the subwoofer portion of the music on my sub.

Perhaps I ought to switch to a white wine...

Something a bit harder may be better :green:

If the sub has an Auto On feature depending on input signal, you should be able to turn it off and stop the music.  It is seeing the input signal and turning on if that feature is in use.

Hal,

You are correct. The sub is in standby mode. Off it goes!

Early B and Phil,

If switching from red to white is normal, trying something stronger must be extraordinary!  :icon_twisted:

Okay. Okay. I know you meant the sound.

Happy Monday!

It's too bad it is not April 1.  Then I would have replied that Red Wine only works when listening to classical music.
