The excess can be traded with farmers for organic produce or free range critter, cheese, eggs.  If the pollen doesn't kill the hive, the honey should be good.  I live in a valley with a fruit industry that doesn't ship bees in or send them out and the unprocessed liquid gold is delicious and the colonies are healthy.
