Bryston BCD-1 Connection Question
« on: 22 Feb 2015, 04:38 pm »
I'm building a second system and will be moving my Bryston BCD-1 CD player to this second system.

My second system will include the Devialet 200 integrated amp/DAC unit.  In this second system, the Bryston BCD-1 will connect to the Devialet using a 75-ohm Bryston Digital Coax (RCA) cable.

Does using the Digital Output (RCA) of the Bryston BCD-1 sound better, worse or equal to using its Analog Output (RCA)?

The BCD-1 makes an excellent transport.  Whether it sounds better or not will be determined by the DAC it is hooked up to not the sound of the BCD-1

Samurai7595 - Phil A knows what he's taking about when it comes to building multi-home systems!
As a BCD-1 owner - depends on the DACS chips you will be running.
So when Mr. Tanner springs the new BCD-2, it will have the latest and greatest DACS chips - so for that I would consider analog out and let the CD do the D/A conversion. :thumb:

In my old place, my master bedroom and main system backed to the same wall.  So I had connections going back and forth.  When the BCD-1 was on my system I had it connected to both systems and later the BDA-1 as well.  When you have that set-up opportunity and used to the quality of the source component is in the main system, it's hard to go into the bedroom system (which in the old place fed 4 other places via a speaker switcher) and listen to lesser quality stuff.

Since Devialet digitizes the analog inputs (line level or phono), it's probably best to use the digital output of the BCD.    Otherwise the signal will go through the BCD DAC's -> Devialet's A/D converter -> Devialet's DAC....  With that said, it doesn't hurt to experiment, as you can pick analog inputs sampled at 96 or 192.  However, I would suggest using the AES/EBU over the coax connection unless you had another source in mind.

I've heard the 400 at a dealer and was rather impressed with digital sources and the ability to digitize your vinyl.   At the time of the demo, they didn't have speakers that were listed under the SAM configuration option.  I guess that's where Devialet integrated amps really shines.

I'm planning to use the AES/EBU connection for my Bryston BDP-2 digital streamer.
