JKDAC32 direct attached to Synology Anyone?
« on: 21 Apr 2015, 09:48 pm »
Hi There,

I am interested in purchasing a JKdac32 to connect it directly to a Synology 413 via USB. Has anyone ever tried this if this works, since it is not registered as a common used DAC by Synology.

It uses the M2Tech HiFace for USB.
This needs a proprietary driver.
They have one for Linux, maybe  you get it to work

Vincent is correct - it uses the Hiface One (not Two) OEM board which he linked to.

Looking at the Synology 413, I see it says that it uses DSM operating system which I presume is a variant of Linux?

I would suggest only purchasing the JKDAC32 if you can try it & see if it works with your Synology

Correct; the Synology DSM operating system is a Linux variant. If I understand correctly I should hack into the OS to get this working?? And that is just something that I would like to avoid.... I have been reading quite some good reviews on the JkDac.. btw, Jkeny, is that you? And I am looking for a way to attach a reasonably priced DAC to my stereo using the Synology as my source. Suggestions in order to do so are more than welcome.

Yep, here's Johnny :)

My latest DAC, the Ciunas not only sounds a bit better than JKDAC32 but it also works natively with Linux i.e it doesn't need drivers if the particular variant of Linux is UAC-2 complaint (USB audio class 2).

Reading about the Synology here http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f6-dac-digital-analog-conversion/help-please-getting-linux-based-network-attached-storage-synology-work-universal-serial-bus-industry-standard-cables-connectors-and-communications-protocols-between-computers-and-electronic-devices-2-0-audio-digital-analogue-converter-emotiva-14415/
It appears that you need Kernel 2.6.35 or later for UAC-2 support

I have customers running my Ciunas DACs & converters using EDO plugin with Squeezebox Touch which is a Linux based server but I don't know of any using Synology NAS servers

If you order the Ciunas DAC, you have 20 days home trial to check if it works correctly & you are happy with the sound. Just return it for a full refund. PM me if you want further details
