Poddwatt/Oddwatt amps

Anyone have experience with the Poddwatt or any of their other amps? Looks like a simple design utilizing a self inverting push pull circuit with 5751 and el84 tubes.

Not much in the way of reviews.

Thanks.

Hi, I am sure you are aware that those amps from Oddwatt are kits
and need assembly.

I'm not a fan of SRPP driver circuits much. I would look at Bottlehead personally as Paul Joppa is an excellent designer at similar price points to the Oddwatt designs. There is also Transcendent, Audionote ($$$), etc....see the Lab forum here for details (section on diy kits and resources).

Honestly without a basic schematic and detailed measurements it is hard to tell if they (the Oddwatt kits) are worth it. Remember the devil is in the details, and I've become somewhat skeptical of rehashing and recycling older tube circuits.

I wish them well though, as I know it's 2 diyers who are just trying to support the tube community. Maybe somebody here will build them and/or measure them plus report back.

Best,
Anand.

I don't have any extended listening experience with them, but they have had a room at Lone Star Audio Fest the last few years.
Great guys, and the sound in their room was quite nice.

Hi Anand,

Last year I built a Bottlehead Stereomour (the people there are great!) and after that a Transcendent Sound Mini beast. I also see Audio Note Kits have an el 84 kit (17 wpc @ $1400). I was looking for something a step up from the Stereomour.

The Poddwatt is run very conservatively @ 5 wpc with distortion @ 1.0% or less.

Thanks.

Good listening,

Lary
