BP6 vs. BHA1 as a preamp
« on: 17 May 2016, 11:33 pm »
Has anyone directly compared these two as a preamp sound wise? I'm considering a BP6 for a second system and use my BHA as a preamp now.  Thanks for any information you can provide.

I've compared a BP16 with a BHA, and preferred the 16. It has only SE output, whereas my BHA has balanced preamp output. So go figure...

My gut feeling is that the balanced pre trumps a SE pre in most cases, so, if you have a poweramp with balanced inputs.....

Compared the preamp section of my B60R (same as BP6) to my BHA-1 and also my BP25P and preferred the BHA-1 as it was cleaner, more detailed producing IMHO better imaging and depth overall….although the BHA-1 has no remote available and does not mute the amp/speaker outputs when headphones are used.

All were used with a BCD-1 (CDP), 4BSST powering some Dynaudio Special 25s.

Haven't heard the B16 but I believe it was a new design and also uses surface mounting which was then used in the BHA-1.
