Recommended RCA cable to amp?
« on: 16 Jan 2015, 02:15 pm »
Just ordered a pair of amps from Klaus. I was wondering what RCA cable people are using to run from the amp to pre. Was thinking of BJC, but surely there is something better without breaking the bank.

I recommend that you contact Sonny here on the forum. I think his cables are the best bang for the buck. I'm using his copper Sweet Spot Reveals between my Candela and Khartago's, as well as between my DAC and Candela.

Gronenberg the cable that Klaus sells is a perfect match.

Blue Jeans Cable remains at the sweet-spot in quality and price.

It's not that simple as recommending "your personal favorite", it depends on the rest of your system and cables.  I've owned Stratos amps for fifteen years and they do react to cable changes.  The Gronenberg is Klaus' favorite and I own a couple of pair, but they have not always proved to be the best match in all situations, though they should be better than BJC and I have used BJC and still use their coax cable.  Also what do you consider "breaking the bank?"

There is no such thing as the best cable for your amp.

It all depends on personal taste and other connected equipment, speakers and cables.

I use DH Labs Revelation whch I think are really good for the money.

I agree - money is not an indicator of what will work the best in your system.
I too have used Groneberg and they are good cable.
I really like building my own from Mogami wire and using Cardas ends.  Fairly cheap and sounds great.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll have to experiment to find what I like.

@JackD - anything over $300 for 5 RCAs.

Build a RCA from a mogami 2803 cable or buy a ready one made with mogami 2803

Really is super bang for buck and performs quiet well

But do keep in mind system matching is important and a particular cable might work or not work. Also depends on listening taste

But surely you can try mogami 2803

Wireworld Oasis 7, particularly used, is a very good deal, IMO. Nice Litz design with good diametric and very nice low-mass plugs. Good quality wire with silver plated connectors. I have made wires with available bulk wires, and these are much better than anything I've been able to devise using available wires and connectors. I think they are less system dependent than some.

Do you mean 5 cables or 5 pair?  Quite a difference.  I agree with jupiterboy on the Wireworld Oasis.  Good basic neutral cable or for a little more forward the DH Labs Bl-1.

5 individual cables.

Looks like I have to find a brick and mortar to purchase Wireworld cables?

Not at all. Cable Co. and Atlas sell them. I’ve seen a 1M set go for $80 used. Good service as well. The low-mass RCAs have a small compression ring. I had one fail and they sent me several replacements. It’s not an IC that is going to sing at a certain frequency or highlight anything, just the facts at a reasonable price.

There are six sellers on Amazon who sell them in various parts of the country.

I don't think that Mogami 2903 is still available.
Maybe 2964 might work.
Other good choices:
Canare LV-77S
Belden 1505F
Belden 1695A

Use Mogami W2534 to make your own.  It has two pair.  Pull the pairs back, use the white for the center and the blues for the ground.  Attach the shielding to the blues on one end only and mark that end somehow (it should go to the preamp).  Use Cardas GRCM6's for the ends.  I've also used GRMO's and the SRCA's.  The SRCA's are nice but always seem lose.  For the latter two RCA's you've got to build up the cable from 6mm to 9mm.  I use layers of heat shrink to do that.

Makes great headphone cable also.

Yes,  there are really good cables for little $ out there..personally,  I love, love, love Groneberg's....keep in mind that all products have them internally, and thus, it would be a perfect inductance / impedance / tonality match with our gear...HOWEVER,  as always, synergy trumps everything (and so does personal taste, obviously)...regardless,  as long as the cables are copper based, you should be able to get rich, warm timbres with our stuff....

now,  as for your question and budget:

5 x Groneberg Series III   interconnects are $ 275.

Klaus
