Last night we watched the 2013 documentary film Jodorowsky's Dune, directed by Frank Pavich, about Jodorowsky's unsuccessful attempt to film Frank Herbert's Dune. The speculation about what might have been is probably more interesting then the actual documentary itself which drags a bit. Still, it held our interest.
"Dune was originally to be filmed by a French consortium with Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky with Dan O'Bannon (Alien) as head of the special effects. The film was to star Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Alain Delon, Hervé Villechaize and Mick Jagger.
The soundtrack was to be completed by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Henry Cow, Magma and Pink Floyd. Also included in the team was Jean Giraud (Moebius)". Mike Oldfield, Gong and Tangerine Dream had already said no to the project.
