Depends on the SET. My 200WPC SETs have no problem driving inefficient Infinity RSIIb speakers to extremely loud volumes, cleanly.

Can you please share the details about your speakers?  :thumb:

SET can rock, roll with explosive dynamics. Just bring a highly efficeint pair of speakers along. 98db and above will rock your boat.

Infinity RSIIb, circa 1985. Here is a link with lots of info:

I have completely rebuilt them with external passive crossovers, new midrange ribbon diaphragms from Apogee Acoustics, internal bracing, Cardas copper litz wiring, a completely re-done low frequency EQ box, etc.

I agree with rollo. Some SET amps will be better than others. SET amps perform best with speakers designed specifically for them.

My SET-based system does not limit what music I listen to: from simple neo-classical and ambient to Dubstep, Trip Hop, and current popular and electronic music.

My SET amp (which is no beast and certainly not designed for wunderbass or maxodynamics) has deep, textured and rhythmic bass while the better solid state amps have had a more lean, punchy and perhaps even bass. I am guessing the deeper, weightier bass from the SET amp is exciting some room modes... and deeper bass always seems to sound slower and less punchy.

Cheers,
Ray
