Small & Powerful Amps
« on: 9 Mar 2015, 07:00 am »
Hi gents :) I'm looking for a small stereo amp that is powerful, but I have space constraints. Width is not an issue, but height is. I need the amp to be no more than 3.5 inches high. The Wyred 4 Sound mAmp would be absolutely perfect but the price is far out of my budget. The more power the better because it will be powering my home theater fronts. I do have a sub so I'm crossing the fronts over at 80hz, but the extra power still needed no?

Anyway, I have a budget of $400. Thanks guys!

Your requirements seems suited to Class D amps.
Looks your small space will becomes a amp hot.
So Class D are cold amps usually;

The ClassD Audio amps are very well received, diy is very inexpensive or they even build them in case now.

If you pick up that Parasound Z amp be aware they have a reputation for running hot.

But I also understand they sound good!

Class D would absolutely be a great option too, as many have suggested.  They run cool, and drive lots of wpc.

The Crown Drivecore amps are 3 1/2" tall.  They don't have feet on the bottom.

I'd give the Crown XLS 1500 a try. I haven't heard one myself, but the XLS amps (except the XLS 1000) have garnered quite a following.
The 1500 is small, very powerful, should run cool, and is within your budget.
What's really nice is that you can get it from many places online or a brick and mortar store like Guitar Center, and have 30 days to trial
