Sony just f'ed me
« on: 3 Dec 2014, 01:36 am »
Seems that Sony and vTuner have been having a fee battle. vTuner is now denying access to its service from some Sony devices including the Blu-ray player that arrived an hour ago.

Seeing as vTuner is the only feature I wanted from a Blu-ray player besides playing discs, I am not a happy camper at the moment.

First off - it's not Sony who's doing it to you, it's V-Tuner. They had a disagreement with Sony and decided the best option was to cut off service to Sony devices. My Sony HAP Z-1 ES was without V-Tuner for about a month in October, but as of this morning 12/3/14, V-Tuner is working on the HAP Z-1. I use the V-Tuner feature a lot on the HAP Z-1 (it's replaced all my other Internet and terrestrial tuners) so I have a pretty good idea of your level of frustration. But it is V-Tuner, not Sony, who deserve to be lambasted (I tried to get in touch with them but it was impossible, maybe you'll have better luck.)

I am glad vTuner is back for you Steve. I am speculating that Sony resolved whatever issue they are having with vTuner for its high end products. However, as of December 4, 2014 vTuner is still not available on the Blu-Ray player I purchased so I am returning it.

I disagree with you as to who is at fault. Sony represented that vTuner is on of the apps provided with their BDP-S5200 player. It doesn't work. Sony f'ed me plain and simple.

Here is an interesting thread on this topic.

Well, it was probably available at one time. If it's not now, then yeah, they need to update their info or at least provide explanation to some effect that they're working to resolve the problem. I think Steven is right, but Sony didn't help either.
