help removing one amp module from 5 channel 9B
« on: 29 Nov 2014, 10:32 pm »
hello all

the center channel on my 9B literally just blew.  Obviously  i cant speak to anyone at bryston until after the holiday. in the meantime id like to check  the fuse (and in hope that i dont have to send the whole amp back for repair)  can someone refer me to a site or manual about how to remove the  module.

i have looked at some of the manuals online but havent seen anything regarding this.

any assistance appreciated

What do you mean, just blew? Did you see smoke?

Whenever my 3B SST2 shuts down usually from too much heat, it'll come back on after a few minutes of cooling. You can try unplugging the amp and plug it back in, see if that works.

I have a 6B-SST(C) three-channel amp, kbuzz, and it has a circuit breaker, not a fuse. If yours has this, you might try resetting the breaker, but the smoke doesn't bode well. The 6Bs modules can be removed individually and sent for repair, and this is likely the case with the 9B. The surgical process to remove the boards requires some delicacy, as does the packing, but you should be fine doing so; I'm sure Bryston will guide you through the uninstall/install procedures, turn the board around, and get it to you quickly.

Mike Pickett has been great as regards repairs and tech advice, and I've always received a swift reply to emails: mpickett@bryston.com

Sorry to hear.

For future reference it was not a holiday up here in Canada.
Our thanksgiving is in October.

I blew a channel in a 9BSST/2. Just unscrew the screws above and underneath the blown amp channel. The amp will slide out. Call bryston and get an RA# and if you live in the US ship it to Vermont using UPS or FEDEX. Enclose a copy of the receipt. Put the amp back into your system in about 2 weeks your amp should be returned to you. Slide it back in and then attach the screws. All is well.

Oh geez, please don't plug it back in or power it up if you had smoke coming from it! Wait to see what Mike tells you.

Mike told me to use the amp with 4 channels and send the bad channel in to be fixed. It's all modular.

I am assuming by the statement he has a bad center channel and nothing else.
