TEST: LP Vinyl Drops
« on: 24 Nov 2014, 05:56 pm »
For fun, I thought it would be interesting to do some vinyl drops using the *same LP* and ADC recording gear in 24/96 with a couple of rigs I had easy access to:

Roksan TMS turntable, SME309 tonearm, Ortofon Cadenza Black cartridge, Whest PhonoStage.20 preamp

vs.

Technics SL-1200 M3D "budget" rig with either the Denon DL-110 cartridge or even less expensive Shure M97xE feeding an Emotiva XSP-1 preamp.

3 samples. Would love to know how you rate each sample!

Go to the link below to get all the details and sample files... IMO, the sonic differences are clearly there, and even though it's best to play back with high-resolution digital gear (24/96), much can be assessed with a simple pair of headphones off a computer.

Great idea! Nice way to give an idea of what improvements to expect as you move up the analog chain and potentially choose different flavors of sound.
