Selling my ZKit 4 (Zen triode tube gain stage), beautifully built and modified by Decware forum member Tubeman. The project was completed on a 5"x 7" Hammond aluminum chassis with the following features:
- Upgraded Glow Tube Power Supply
- Unit now has two input jacks, RCA and 1/8“ with Input Selector Switch.
- 100K Pot to Adjust the Output Level
- The ZSTAGE uses top grade resistors and poly film & foil capacitors on each channel.
The attached pictures will attest to the supurb build quality. The unit is flawless, both cosmetically and operationally. I am selling to make room for a non-tubed preamp.
What is a “gain stage”? It adds dynamics and presence to your system by increasing signal gain (not volume). Gain builds dynamics. The more dynamic your music is, the more real it will sound. Adding this gainstage to your source will increase the dynamics and overall presence of your music. In fact, the sound of your source will likely improve so much, any thoughts about upgrading will be shelved. The secret is in the gain that you can dial in and adjust to your system.
By turning the gain up to 4 or 5 volts and then turning your preamp or amplifier down to compensate, you will add weight, slam, and overall fullness to the presentation... the kind that's just not possible with a standard 2 volt source.
This circuitry is found on the ZenCD Player and improves the sound of almost any source. The preamp will ship with one NOS GE 12AU7 output and two NOS RCA OC2 glow tubes (one spare). Without modifications, a new ZStage sells for $600. I am selling this for $250 with free shipping to anywhere in the USA.
