iPad UPnP controllers
« on: 10 May 2014, 01:40 am »
Hi, I'm trying to find a good controller for streaming from a NAS to an Oppo player. I found a couple that are Ok but the problem is that if the controller is in the background then when a track ends, the next track doesnt' start. (It does start if the app is in the foreground.) I'm guessing that the apps need to be written specifically to work with iOS7 multitasking...?

Anyway, does anyone know of a controller that works in this scenario? Ta :)

Hi, thanks, but there's no computer involved here... ;) The NAS is streaming directly to the Oppo player. It is controlled by an app running on  an iPad. Everything can find the other things they need to find on the network, the question is about the controller app running on the iPad... just wondering if anyone has run into this issue or found a solution :)

The gapless playback suggestion is interesting though, I suppose a desperate move would be to write a script to make a copy of the library with all track in each album merged into a single file. Hoping to avoid that...

OK, the solution was actually simple. The NAS is a Synology, so

* Use AudioStation (instead of Media Server or other DLNA server), and
* DS Audio, Synology's iOS remote for AudioStation

The iPad app will let you select any player it can find on your network. It seems that, unlike the controller apps I tried, the playlist is maintained on AudioStation, so you can background the app and tracks still play.

I'm happy(er)! Volume control doesn't work but I'm guessing that because I'm taking the digital output from the Oppo not the analog.

Have you tried the Marantz or Kinsky media app?
