Center channel speaker for the LGK Wedge
« on: 15 Oct 2014, 07:23 pm »
Danny,

What would work as a center channel speaker to match with the Wedges? Would it be OB also, sealed or a combination like the X-Voce?

Can a single Wedge be laid on it's side with the large wing down then the whole thing tilted up so the drivers are Level?

What about the lower frequencies? Can one or two 8" drivers be incorporated on either end? Driven passively as a three way design or active with their own plate amp i.e 8" servo drivers with an HX-300 amp?

The tweeter can be rotated and one can be used as a center channel. However, it will require something to handle from 200Hz and down just like the mains. It also needs to be at least 3 feet out from the wall just like the mains as well. That might mean that it works well in theater systems that use a projector but not so well with larger entertainment systems that stick out into the room.

Wouldn't an H-Frame work 200Hz and down with the center also?

I see the problem you are talking about regarding the equipment rack and center OB speaker needing to occupy the same space. With a sealed or ported center channel the speaker can be placed either on or in the equipment rack. With the OB speaker the equipment rack would need to be off to one side. This would solve the space issue but require long runs for HDMI, speaker and interconnect cables.

Would a horizontal sealed or ported MMTMM version using 4 LGK's and a regular Neo3PDR be viable?

Or what about using an existing speaker like the N3S?

Or, since the Wedges are so crazy clean, clear and wide, what about setting the AVR for a phantom center channel and just using the mains?

That could be done.

Any idea what the dimensions would be? I'd be willing to build a test cabinet.
