Jim, I need custom bases for HT3's
« on: 5 Nov 2014, 12:07 pm »
So Jim,

Looks like I won't be parting with the Ht3's and upgrading so I'm going to need to solve a problem, posting this public just in case anyone else has use for this.

I have a 2 year old son who likes to ram into things and generally be a little boy. In my dedicated room my HT3's are safe. They have to move downstairs into an open area and that has me concerned.

Have you ever built custom bases with wider footings to make it harder to knock these guys over?

Thanks :duh:

Interesting.  Dumb question...would these be used with the plithes but instead of the spikes?  Or would you remove the plithe and spikes entirely and attach these directly to the speaker base?

Any way you want really.  It would depend on the look you like, height, and level of stability.  I would install them on the plinths replacing the spikes.  That's what this guy did:

The Sound O'City outriggers are really high quality. An excellent product. I installed them in lieu of Jim's plinths.

Beetlebum-

Would you mind sharing your overall height from floor to top of your SS8's.

Also, did you use the hardware that came with the plinths or the outriggers to secure them?

Your SS8's are beautiful btw! Are they the ones Jim had at a recent show? Seems I remember seeing those in some pics before.

Thanks!

Tommy,

Sorry for the delayed response. I don't recall the overall height with the outriggers installed. It seems they are a tad lower than if you had Jim's plinths and floor spikes installed which for me is better as it puts the area between the Accuton midrange driver and the RAAL ribbon tweeter right at ear level (36" plus or minus). I used the hardware that came with the outriggers and it was an easy install.

I've had my SS8's just about a year now so I don't think you saw my particular pair but I will accept your compliment anyway :)
