Which Remote(s) Work With The BDA-1?
« on: 11 Sep 2014, 11:48 pm »
I've noticed some CD's sound better with the BDA-1's up-sample mode turned off while others sound better with the up-sample mode turned on.  This even extends to individual tracks on the same CD with some sounding best with up-sampling turned off while others sound best when it is turned on.  I've decided the best way for a man of my age to address this problem is to pick up a matching, silver remote for my BDA-1 so I can control the up-sample mode from my seat. :green: :thumb: :D

Is the BR2 the only remote that works with the BDA-1 or was there a different or earlier version that worked as well?

When I had my BDA-1, I observed the same with upsampling.  One can't upsample a lousy recording and make it sound better.  As for remotes, I used a Harmony One with it - the only Harmony that sort of looks silver is the 650 - http://bryston.com/products/other/BR2.html  Of course it doesn't look quite as nice as the BR2 in silver - http://bryston.com/products/other/BR2.html

Pretty much any 'universal remote' will do,  even home made ones as long as it can copy the IR signals from the BR2 remote.

The harmony line is nice, does everything just right. But the original BR2 is better looking and the batteries last forever... It's been 4 years with backlit feature on and the batts are still good.

Unfortunately I don't have a BR2 remote so there is nothing for a universal remote to "learn" or "copy".  I can certainly pick up a BR2 but if there was an earlier Bryston remote that was smaller in size and had fewer functions, I would lean in that direction.  The last thing I want is to have yet another full-sized remote.
