Sirius Radio Sux

I know I shouldn't complain too much. I got Sirius with my auto lease, free for one year. It drives me nuts.

Satellite radio, good reception, SQ etc.

But it is too much like AM pop radio! Out of millions upon millions of tracks they play a very small subset, that I suspect are songs they have paid licensing for, or songs they are being payed to promote. You may say, what's the big deal, but this is supposed to be a pay service for a huge variety of high quality listening.

First of all shut up DJs, I don't need you to talk, at all. The band and song are always displayed, sometimes the year. I want to listen to music with a different experience from commercial broadcast radio, the experience you promised.

I mostly listen to "Classic album rock", the kind you used to be able to hear on FM stations in a college town (Steely Dan's song FM) Also some varieties when I feel like it. But I hear the same songs from a small group of artists over and aver again on probably 5 different channels. And I am only listening 30 minutes at a stretch. I can tell you who is on tour by the amount of the bands music that is on heavy rotation. I don't want to hear the same 10 Stones songs over and over on 5 different channels.

There is so much music they could choose from that I want to hear.

I hear ya jqp.  I also have Sirius Radio for my commute to and from work.  I mostly listen to the three comedy channels, very entertaining.  For music I listen to the Octane channel.  Octane plays rock music will not hear on commercial FM radio.   :D

Yes mine came with the vehicle (as did my last vehicle) for 3 months, which is about up and I'm tired of it.  They are a bit better than most local radio stations as far as the number of songs but not tons.  I have the iPod which about 4.5k songs (with plenty of more room) and only listen to radio if it is a short drive.

Well, I agree but not for the same reasons.

I listen to B.B. King's blues channel, one jazz channel, a handful of rock channels and I enjoy them all.

But I do 90% of my listening on their classical channels, Met Opera and Symphony Hall. Outstanding. However ... Sirius only had three classical stations and this summer they did away with the 3rd (Sirius Pops) without notifying the listening public. I enjoyed that channel as well but now it's gone, just like that, one day it was there and the next it was gone, without a word of explanation. I guess they needed more air space for another porn channel. Bad, bad business to say the least and their customer support has been the worst I've encountered

After many years as a XM/Sirius listener, I have pulled the plug. The SQ was never good enough to warrant listening through my home system, but I enjoyed it in my vehicles. The price of subscription went up over the years, making me question the value. The SQ of the integrated sound system in my most recent car is so good I became very aware of how inferior XM/Sirius is compared to CD's and my iPod.
No longer willing to accept the compromise, I have let my multiple subscriptions expire.

I got rid of it since I got Blue Tooth in the car.
Got to be too expensive too.

I listen to Sirius/XM for the music (of course) but the quality often becomes basically MP3 mono.  Amazing it's so bad, really.  But I still find gems and new releases worthwhile.

My fave channels are Real Jazz (67), The Loft (30), Deep Tracks (27).  I agree that the Deep Tracks catalog should be vast enough that I shouldn't hear the Allman Brothers, The Who, The Stones and Rory Gallagher every hour!  And the new music seems to spotlight only about a dozen new artists at a time.   I stopped listening to the Spectrum (28) for that reason.

BTW, no one should spend more than about $5/month.  This thread helped me understand the special deals and special phone numbers to call.  I've never paid more than $30/ 6 months.

Got rid of it for many of the same reasons. Was a Howard Stern fan was the original reason I signed up. Never really listened to much else because of the crummy SQ.  Did the math based on his statement of how many shows he is contracted for per year and at $22 a month (almost twice what it was when I signed up), it came to about $3 per show.  But he seems not all that into it anymore anyway. The value simply isn't there especially when they started nickel-and-diming me right and left with royalty fee increase, internet access upcharges etc etc. Screw that.
