Recieved Omega Outlaw Combi speaker....WOW
« on: 26 Jun 2014, 12:22 am »
Hey everyone just dropped in to say Hi and to show the new speakers I just recieved from Louis.  These are an Outlaw Combi unit in the eko neutral finish.  First off these speakers are really cool looking and very well built.  I have had an interest in omega speakers for about 2 years now but only now decided to give them a go.  So far they are in the break in stage but I am enjoying them very much.  I am not used to dialing in subs so there is a learning curve here for me as I am trying to figure out the best sound.  Each speaker has a downfiring deephemp 8".  My setup is AVA hyrbid vision dac---Decware Torii MKIV---Omega speakers.  I just stream the premium audio from Spotify and Jazz radio.
Below is a photo and as I get used to the sound and break in time I will post more thoughts on how I like them but so far its very promising :)

Have a great day everyone

Congrats... very nice.  I've been enjoying (every day) my Louis-built Super 5's with the RS5 driver since January.  Given some time my set up has been finalized so imaging and staging are optimized.   Incredible transparency.    Yes indeed, for me single driver, high efficiency speakers are simply awesome.  Keep us posted.

Decware and Omegas.  It does not get any better than that.  Let those speakers break in a little and report back.   I own Louis's Hoyt Bedfords Type 1's and can't say enough about them.  Adore your choice of finish.

Nocturne79,

What a lovely system, from stem to stern.  I hope you plan to re-position your speakers for more breathing space.  I notice a Pure i20 sitting on top.  We have two in our home and they are a steal for the paltry price they charge.  Are you running coax out from your i20 into your AVA?  Your iPod/Phone can be set up with the i20 to sound very good indeed, and you have the DAC to do it with.

Looks like a nice combo!  :thumb:

I agree with CR on spacing, and you may want to try a slightly asymmetric setup with these speakers to balance bass frequency room modes a bit more than a symmetric placement would. The results depend on the rest of the room of course, but is worth trying IMO. The best setups I've heard in shows use asymmetric speaker placement. Sometimes just being shifted over to one side of the room a few inches works well, or having the centerline skewed at an angle (other than 45 degrees).

Hey all  yeah had a friend over last night for a listen and we both had a fun time.  Yep its a Pure i20 Canada Rob and it works great and I just stream music thru my itouch without a hiccup, heh its one of the longest things I have kept in audio since I started like 3 years ago.  I am afraid I dont really have room to move them out much as I live in a small place and thats why I really am happy about the size of these speakers :).

Hey DaveC113 I can try a little off center but again I wont have much room.

I think the drivers are the RS5 cause its what is written on the back,  :)

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Wow, beautiful!  Any chance of getting a pic with the grills removed so we can see the drivers?

THANKS and I know you're going to love the combo!

Here it is beowulf.  The 8" sub driver is down firing.  Forgive me if I stole your thunder Nocturne79.

Thanks CR, is the "Outlaw Combi or Combination" an actual speaker that is coming out or from the custom shop, etc.?  And this is a 2 way correct?

It's a one off, as all OutLaw Omega will be.  They will be built, put up on the Omega Store, first come gets it.  It may never be made again, neither will they be made to order.  The OutLaw speakers are the result of Louis productive mind and allow him to work with ideas without effecting and changing his standard Omega line.

Nocturne79s speakers are a pure RS5 based single driver speaker with no crossover.  They have a deepOmega sub in each partitioned cabinet with plate amps on the back.

Hey canada Rob  no thunder stolen here :)  you said the information about my speakers way better than I ever would.  I plan have more photos taken hopefully in the next week or so.  I was able to move the speakers out a few more inches...not much but heh its all I was able to do in this room.

Just an update,  first off I suck at reviewing anything so sorry that this is short.

I have had a couple of weeks now with my new omega speakers and I have to say I really enjoy them alot.  The soundstage is the one thing I really notice and having now dialed in the subs I think I got it about where i want it..heh but who knows I may tweak it some more.  I have moved them a little more out of the wall and that definitely helped with the sound.  My room has no room treatments and even with that the speakers sound great.  With the subs there is plenty of bass and for a short period used them in the HT and they sounded really good there too.  The mids and highs are nice and I never feel fatiguing at all and my Torii MKIV has way more power than needed for these speakers as I have barely turned up the volume knob and the sound is very full sounding with missing nothing IMO...:)

Thank you Louis for the wonderful speakers and I could not be happier.

I will concur the staging and image specificity is amazing.  It's taken me 6 months of placement strategy and cannot move from my seat!!!!

Hi Nocturne79,

Many thanks and my pleasure. I'm very happy you got the Outlaw's all dialed in and they are sounding great in your room. What's really fantastic about the bass section is that you can dial in both sides. If the right side of the room is a little different from the left you can compensate for it on the volume control. You're speakers being Combi's also can play without the subs. Lots of versatility with the Outlaw Combi. Can't get that with Passive Woofer/Tweeter speakers.

Thanks again and a pleasure working with you,
Louis

Hi FireGuy,

Great news and thanks. RS5's being the smallest in diameter and fastest  image and soundstage like crazy.

Thanks again,
Louis
