MSRP $8800
**SPECIAL PRICE FOR AC -
$3500
$3300**
Up for sale, are my beloved, and really awesome PMC 3-way OB1i. I think the best way to tell you about these speakers…is to tell you about my path to them.
I cut my hi-end teeth, on Dynaudio; and went through every stand-mount in the line-up…finishing with the Confidence C1 Signature. I’d always been curious about Harbeth, so I tried a small pair (the P-3) in my Office rig. I loved them so much…I tried the bigger 7ES-3 for the Main room, and really fell for that British sound.
As lovely as the Harbeths are…they can’t quite Rock-out, when you want to. A friend, who’s a big PMC fan…suggested I give them a try. I found a used pair of FB1i, and could see why he liked them so much. Such a great all-arounder, for someone who needs to go from Diana Krall, to Pink Floyd and Zep…like me.
Still…when I really wanted the mid-range to shine; like for Jazz and Vocals…the FB1i weren’t quite on par with the Harbeths. I joked out loud in a forum…”if I could only combine the bass and dynamics of the PMC FB1i, with the sweet mid-range and naturalness of the Harbeth 7ES-3"; that would be a very special speaker indeed. PMC guys asked “have you tried a PMC 3-way”; and the rest, as they say, is history. Of all the hi-end speakers I’ve tried…and as you can see, they’ve been a pretty formidable bunch; these have to be the absolutely most balanced.
I’d still give a slight edge, to Harbeth…in terms of magical mid-range; so…if all you listen to, is Jazz and Vocals…you should buy a pair
But the PMCs mid-range is a close second; and man, can they ROCK…with prodigious bass (my guess is that 28Hz FR, is pretty legit!). Then...all is rounded and balanced-out on top, by a lovely tweeter…custom-made for PMC by SEAS.
They say there’s no “perfect” speaker; and I tend to agree. The ones that regularly WOW you; well…they can be fatiguing after a while. And ones that are non-fatiguing; well…they can bore you after a while, lol. I really do find, these PMCs straddle that line perfectly. Again…you might find better mids; and you can definitely find more hot sizzle, if that’s your thing. But I doubt you’ll find, better top-to-bottom balance (and big sound-stage, and imaging to boot).
I am the first owner…and for the sake of full disclosure, they were sold to me as “dealer demo”. But even though the guy is an authorized dealer…he’s not your typical B&M shop; where "dealer demo" means, audiophile’s kids…put their grubby little hands all over these, and/or knocked them the hell over…while Dad was trying to audition, lol. My brother picked them up for me; and when I unpacked them, they were as-new…AFAIC (and I’m your typical obsessive-compulsive type audiophile; so I'm rather hard to please...lol). I'm usually very conservative with my ratings; I usually think what I should give them, and then list 1 point lower to be safe. I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver, than the other way around; and if you read some of my feedback at Audiogon...you'll see many have said just that. But I feel comfortable, listing these as 9/10.
I have the original boxes, so shipping isn't an issue; though obviously a local sale would be welcome. The weight listed is an estimate; as I said, my brother picked these up...and PMC fudged, when they were shipped to the dealer. My 125 Lb estimate, is based on my FB1i being about 55 Lbs per; these are a little bigger, so likely a little heavier.
Buyer to pay for shipping, and PayPal charges if necessary; though I tend to buy, and sell...based on "all-in" numbers, so we'll figure it all out. Perfect and long-standing feedback at Audiogon...under the same name. I'll take some better pictures shortly; these were some I already had, from when I re-did my room a bit. Feel free to ask questions...if you have them; or just want to talk a little shop.
I'll post pics soon; but you can also look at my ad on USAudioMart

Just wanted to send a shoutout to Chris who is a great guy to deal with. Also, these are wonderful speakers and are a bargain at the asking price. Hopefully, someone will snag these soon.

That's a steal and if I hadn't just bought new Sonus Faber Veneri 3.0s I'd be all over these...good luck selling them!
