Mr Yoder,
I was a huge Lou Reed fan back in the 1970s, and I can tell you that "Metal Machine Music" was not well-received, by critics nor his fans.
"Berlin" and his two live albums were praised, with "Transformer", "Sally Can't Dance", "Coney Island Baby", "Street Hassle" getting mixed reviews. But few actually felt that "MMM" was anything but rubbish.

My selections for most disappointing albums:
1) Holly Cole - "Temptation" : I can't believe that someone didn't pull the plug after a few days of her destroying all life out of these tunes. She's a wonderful artist, but this was some misguided shit.
2) The Roches - self-titled : I've tried and I've tried to like this album. But it still comes across as "Folk Music for Simpletons".
3) The Eagles - Hotel California : More uninteresting tunes than on any album they put forth. Great concept; one classic song; a lot of filler.
