Which critically acclaimed albums do you hate??

My recent post about acclaimed albums made me think---which famous LP's/CD/s
have you bought that you just can't understand what all the fuss is about???
Personally,
       1.  All rap
        2.  Van Dyke Parks--I see his albums on some Top 100 lists, but I just
can't listen to the one CD I bought (Tokyo Rose, I think)
         3. Steve Earle, "Guitar Town."  I try listening to this now and then, but never make it to the end.  I DO like covers of some of his songs, and like some later stuff.
          4. Lou Reed, "Metal Machine Music."  I don't know, but it sounds  like
           a factory???

I hope I don't offend anyone, but off the top of my head the most overrated album I have heard would have to be:

1. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene.

That's good to know, because I like Steve Earl but don't have that CD.

The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem was critically aclaimed and made the lists of several critics as "best" To me it's just more rap crap

I agree on Steve Earle's Guitar Town.  That was my introduction to him and I found it rather pedestrian.  Maybe when it came out it was ground breaking.  I absolutely love several of his other albums, and he is awesome in concert.  Pickup Transcendtal Blues or ANY of the live ones instead for an intro.

I don't think Metal Machine Music was critically acclaimed anywhere, unless it was by some cretin.  As I recall that was a "contractual obligation" album, and Lou deliberately decided to give them a real stinker.

A critically acclaimed album I never connected with was OK Computer by Radiohead.  A critically acclaimed artist I never got was Rufus Wainwright-I love his father's music, his mother (and aunts), and his sister's, but not him.  My daughter likes him though.

Mr Yoder,

I was a huge Lou Reed fan back in the 1970s, and I can tell you that "Metal Machine Music" was not well-received, by critics nor his fans.

"Berlin" and his two live albums were praised, with "Transformer", "Sally Can't Dance", "Coney Island Baby", "Street Hassle" getting mixed reviews.  But few actually felt that "MMM" was anything but rubbish.

+++++++++++

My selections for most disappointing albums:

1) Holly Cole - "Temptation" : I can't believe that someone didn't pull the plug after a few days of her destroying all life out of these tunes.  She's a wonderful artist, but this was some misguided shit.

2) The Roches - self-titled : I've tried and I've tried to like this album.  But it still comes across as "Folk Music for Simpletons".

3) The Eagles - Hotel California : More uninteresting tunes than on any album they put forth.  Great concept; one classic song; a lot of filler.

I was just funnin' ya to see if you were really listenin'.
I agree about Rufus---I liked him alot on "The McGarrigle Hour" but a whole album was too much for me. I think Martha's great--have two EP's and look forward to a real debut.
BTW, have you seen the two live videos online???

Wheezer -  "Green" :The songs are great. The quality of mastering is pathetic. Very sad.
