Factory Dodd 6h30 Buffer tube noise problem
« on: 30 May 2014, 04:54 am »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this rustling/crackling noise I'm getting from their factory built Dodd 6h30 buffer. At first I suspected a tube gone bad but after replacing several tubes including brand new ones I was still hearing this noise. Sometimes it appeared right away and with other tubes it played fine for awhile before the same noise started. The noise is similar from tube to tube and doesn't seem to effect the sound quality, no distortion even as you play louder. Any ideals or suggestions? Thanks,  Rod

Hi, Yes I emailed him but haven't heard back so I thought I'd see if anyone else might have had the same problem. Thanks,  Rod

I hate it when rustle gets into my joints. To add to what George said, could possibly be the socket as well.

Well, I don't think there's much that can be done other than what was suggested. I had a rustle in a commercial amp once, in the end I resorted to a painstaking visual inspection and found a joint that was actually unsoldered...! I couldn't believe it, it was a "name brand" amp. The wire was wrapped around the socket terminal fine but had never been soldered.

Currently have an amp with the socket problem. It's a vintage amp (over 50yo) so I guess you'd expect it. Just need to get around to replacing the socket...
