Wintec stereo receiver
« on: 17 Apr 2014, 01:53 pm »
Fellow sentients,

I recently helped a friend go through an older gentleman's apartment, who recently entered a nursing home. The apartment has to be cleaned out, and he was a pack rat, so it will be quite a job. Whatever.

He has a couple of 1970s-era speakers hooked up to a Wintec stereo receiver. The receiver is very nice looking, reminiscent of Yamaha's CR-series, and the AM and FM sounds okay through the speakers, though I have not tested it with any ancillary equipment, yet.

I've done a little "Wintec" name-surfing for further information on the brand, but haven't been too successful. I seem to remember seeing Wintec stuff in local Minneapolis stereo shops during the 1970s, places like Schaak's or Sound of Music [now Best Buy] or Sound Environment or HiFiSound or Audio King or.....

Does anybody here have any recollections/experience with this brand?

Fun E.

I have no personal experience. Have you read this?

Sounds like they were well-built, highish quality pieces of gear.......which may be rather rare. Very cool find.

Thanks. That's very interesting. I'll have to check the model number and maybe take some photos.

If anybody has photos of their models, that would be helpful too....?

. Open the hood and take pics of the guts too. This would be useful for others in the future. They sound interesting.
