Sony HAP-S1
« on: 31 May 2014, 04:57 pm »
I've been wanting to get into HiRez download music, but didn't know how.
My problems were lack of expertise and deep pockets.  When I heard about
the HAP-S1, I new this was what I had been looking for.

It's DAC can handle just about anything including Apple Lossless and DSD,
both 2.8 and 5.6 MHz.  It has a 500gb internal HDD, and a USB input for an
external HDD.  I'm using a 128gb Thumb Drive.  You cannot plug in a Thumb
Drive with music already on it because the HAP-S1 must format the drive first,
and the drive will no longer work on a PC.

I had a lot of trouble with the WiFi connection, so I went with a wired connection
to my combo Modem/Router and now everything works fine.  Instead of using
the Sony supplied software, I am manually transferring my music from the PC to
the HAP-S1 using drag and drop.  I put all my ALAC files on the external drive, and
two DSD albums on the internal drive.

I'm using the built in amp driving 2 PSB bookshelf speakers, and it sounds great.
Even my ALAC (apple lossless) files sound better using the Sony DSEE mode.

If you are looking for a way to play and store your HiRez files without having to use
a computer, I highly recommend this player.
