Wyred 4 Sound Positive Experience

Hi Guys,

I had a bit of misfortune with one of the Ampzilla II mono blocks when I blew the output stage recently.  I bought this amplifier back in 2009 when there was no Australian dealer at the time.  I had some issues with blowing fuses and buzzing from the problematic mono block and when Wyred 4 Sound purchased Spread Spectrum Technologies they tried there best to provide support via email.

I had a local technician replace the transformer but it made no difference to reduce the buzzing from this mono block.  When the mono block output stage blew Wyred 4 sound suggested that I send it back to them in California for repair.  EJ and his staff have been very helpful and repaired the output stage and fixed the buzzing sound from the mono block.  The issue turned out to be a faulty AC relay in the small power supply.  The damage to the output stage occurred because the local technician did not install it correctly and the lining rubbed through and grounded the output stage.  I came to a fair agreement with EJ and I paid for the repair of the output staged and Wyred fixed the buzzing noise under warrant.  All in all it cost me about $250US for this repair plus shipping (they spent many hours repairing the unit).

I am very happy that they fixed this issue for me and their professional response to this problem.  The Ampzilla II is a fantastic sounding amplifier and I've been very happy with its sound quality.  So much in fact I upgraded to Salk Sound Ht3's which are notoriously hard to drive and the Ampzillas does this with relative ease.

All in all I had a positive experience and I will definitely be purchasing a product from Wyred 4 Sound again.

Cheers Rod

It's nice that you had a positive experience with W4S repair and customer service, but The Karma Circle actually is .....

"The Karma Circle is a place where you can offer up extra audio-related items to your fellow AC Members.  Whoever starts the Karma can set the rules for that particular Karma - must have X number of posts, must offer up the next Karma or whatever."

Hi,

Happy to have this thread moved to another circle if it isn't in the appropriate one.

Hey Rod, great news that your Ampzilla is working.  I remember when you had all that trouble with the buzz and it's a relief to know you finally got it sorted out.  Happy listening. :thumb:

I have nothing but good things to say about the support from EJ and Clint.   My remote for my STP-SE pre-amp developed a weird problem with adjusting the volume.  A email to Clint in the morning and there was a new remote on it's was that very day... I can't get any better than that.

Hi Blackmore,

Turns out it was the AC relay in the small power supply was vibrating and causing the buzzing noise.  EJ stated this is about only the second time in 15 years of manufacturing the amplifier that he has seen this type of problem.  They are currently burning in the amplifier to ensure that everything is fine to make certain I won't have any problems.  I live on the west coast of Australia and shipping is expensive for such a heavy amplifier and I don't want to have to do this again unless I have the unit refurbished in the future.  Its definitely a stayer in my system.

Thanks for the post.

Regards Rod

I know how expensive it is just to ship heavy amps across the U.S.  Cannot imagine the cost to Perth.  Hope your trumpet playing is going well, too!

Hi Blackmore,

To be honest it has cost me $700US shipping to and from the USA which is very cheap considering the shipping weight is 62 pounds.  I played a gig at a hotel on Saturday and it was a large crowd.  For a community band we sound pretty tight but most of the members have Bachelor of Music qualifications or played for 20 - 30 years and are pretty good.  The stage that we play on at the hotel is a 'V' shape and I am really squashed when playing this gig and it is a bit unpleasant.  I've also had a bad cold for 5 weeks and as you know it is quite unpleasant practising the trumpet when your not well.

Thanks for your post.

Regards Rod

Hi Guys,

The Ampzilla arrived today and I've connected it to my system and it works perfectly.  The buzzing noise is now gone and I'm hoping for a trouble free system for a while.

Its great to have my system up and running now.
