servo sub options
« on: 30 Apr 2014, 04:41 pm »
I already have the 12" servo sub in a sealed enclosure and A370 driving it.  My question is would it be possible to drive that and a pair of the 8" subs in an OB h-frame off the one amp?

I was thinking having the H-frame between my X-Statiks and the sealed sub in the back and out of phase.

No..   here is what I know, but Danny and Brian may have to chime in.

The 8's have a different setting need so not to be over powered by the 370, even if you hooked them all up so they would appear to be a 4 ohm load, Brian has said in the past that the servo circuit may not see them correctly.

I can put three OB 8's on one of the new amps or the 370, works fine.  Danny put three 12's on one 370 ob.  But as soon as you start to mix and match you are asking for issues.

The new amps from Brian are dual UCD amps, thus 400 watts times 2 for two drivers.  He does list on his site that you could mount this amp in between the two and run separate drives in different spots.

With HX800XLR3 amplifier, one can drive two drivers with one single amp. It has two Hypex 400WRMS power amplifier modules in one heat sink so that each module independently drives one driver with servo control. As result, customers have the flexibility of either put two drivers in one enclosure or put two drivers in separate enclosures and place them up to 20 ft distance. The quickguide of the HX800XLR3 amplifier for sealed subs can be found here.

To achieve higher output in an infinite baffle or dipole configuration, SW-12-16FR has been designed so that 2 or 3 drivers can be connected to a single amplifier. The higher 16 ohm impedance allows a parallel connection. With 2 or 3 drivers, high output can be achieved even with an open baffle.

Now that I think it through a bit more I can see how getting the right phase for the 2 subs could be problematic.  I'm just trying to save money but as usual some things just can't be overcome.
