Now, you're really quibbling!

I don't think so. Seriously, suppose his putt-putt jet pack failed, he'd be toast. See your frozen body on the next Jupiter mission. I can't actually believe that doing laps of the shuttle with no tethering or other safety backup is realistic.

The opening sequence of 'Man of Steel' is awesome sci-fi, but the bulk of the film is another example of a diminished story in the service of big action.

Well, yes I agree with that.

Whether or not you liked it, 'Gravity' meets the criteria of sci-fi, whereas 'Man of Steel' does not.

OK... but what are the criteria? I only asked a question, really. 'Gravity" operates basically in reality. I'm just wondering if that's it's problem.

Toast indeed, but they know the risk and are game anyway. The whole journey is risky. It's a risky business.

I think the biggest problem with 'Gravity' is that it does operate so close to reality, but it's still very much fiction. After all, it never happened (and it never will). The premise is complete fiction, as are several conditions which are critical to the story. Sure, it has the feel of reality, but that is at once its greatest strength and its critical weakness. Since it has such a realistic feel, the distortions of reality are more difficult to dismiss.

I don't know why I've posted so much about this film. It's not exactly one of my favorite movies. Perhaps, I enjoyed it as much as I did because my expectations were so low. The blurbs I saw on TV left me wondering how the heck they were going to make the movie last an hour and a half (and how it could possibly end with someone's survival). I was thinking in terms of reality instead of science fiction.

I've been told there were some complaints from the special FX people. I don't blame them. Frankly Sandra just had to tell a sappy story and talk into a microphone several times. Her true screen time wasn't that big. The entire movie was just one big awesome FX. While it might be the only movie that I like her in, off hand, I still think that the FX's guys deserve the reward.

Frankly the whole stigma around the awards this years felt very political.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse "Buzz Killer" Tyson trolls Gravity on Twitter only to finally admit that he liked it very much:

I recently saw the movie at home. Given many people didn't like the movie, I thought it must be a slow pace or art house like movie that requires effort and focus.

After watching the movie, I don't understand why would anyone not enjoy the movie. Its definitely one of the best movie of 2013. I liked Oblivion too. But comparing this movie to Oblivion is an insult to the director Alfonso Cuarón.

so much silence!

You're kidding, right? The soundtrack never stopped playing that stupid music!

Hey, maybe they did a different release over here, I suppose it's possible.
