Question on a 4B-SST2
« on: 23 Apr 2014, 10:03 pm »
Hi all,

Looking at buying a pre-owned 4B-SST2.  I spoke with a helpful person at Bryston yesterday and with the serial number was told the amp was built 04/2009.  Today I looked at the picture of the back of the amp and the plate has information that might indicate the build date is more recent.  Called Bryston and left a message but haven't heard back.  Can anyone tell me if this amp was actually built in Sept. of 2011 and does it have all current updates?  Info from back of amp:

4B - SST2 - 17 - SIL - 120

Serial No: 4BSST2 - 004657

Date: 0911

Rev: 947

Thanks,
Jeff

The latest 4BSST2 with all the current updates would be from serial number 4719 and up.   Serial numbers from 4188 through 4718 are all the same with the exception of the earlier units that didn't get the "2" (squared) on the power button but are denoted as the squared version on the rear of the amp.  I do not know the build date of unit 4719 but if the serial number is lower than that it doesn't have the latest changes which if memory serves are different caps and another slight change as I recall.

If it helps any, I have an early 4BSST2 and the latest version.  If there is a difference it is barely detectible if at all although YMMV.  The 7B's and up received the most impact from the latest changes - not as big as the change from SST to SST2.  Hope this helps.
