These speakers can play very loud.  I had peaks of 98+ db today when playing the MOFI cd of The Yes Album.
Every once in a while I like to play Rush "Tom Sawyer" and rattle the walls...never tested the SPL though. :green:

I learned a good lesson tonight, never put the cones on the speakers until you are absolutely sure the speakers are placed at optimum.  I moved the speakers sideways, away from the heavy drapes and 2 inches further back towards the wall and I was greatly rewarded with a higher bass output.  I had a sneaky feeling the drapes were interfering with the speakers output.  I hope this is it, the speakers are too heavy with the cones attached to move.

On a higher note, Fragile by Yes never sounded better, and the cd Migration by Dave Grusin sounded very right.  Nice taut bass and all the instruments were clearly defined.  So the speakers are now 6 inches from the wall.  Time will tell.

I bought some Teflon furniture movers, and attached cone cups to them with some Blue Tac. They work amazingly well, while leaving the spikes on the speaker, for adjusting placement. I of course removed them after I found the sweet spot.
