I'm curious how the latest MP301 sounds?? I loved those units and would still have one except the one I had got really hot. I'm just getting reinvigorated about all things music and may just start a new rig building process....I'm thinking:
 MP301-Integrated
DAC IT or other starter price Sabre DAC
Use my current Squeezebox Touch and Piano CD player
Maybe instead of my JBL gaggle I'll try some Wharfedale Diamond or a bookshelf with a ESS or RAAL type tweater (Not sure if I got the first one right-ESS) Monitor Audio, so many options in speakers I'm seeing now, but must be inexpensive ($500ish/pair).

Any thoughts? Any MP301 guys still around?? Oh and Hey guys how has everybody been???

Good to have you back Ed.  What I would say with the MP unit at 6.5 watts is that you'd want a very efficient speaker and bookshelf speakers aren't known for their efficiency.  Maybe one of the smaller Tekton speakers would work better, just sayin'.  But overall sounds like a good plan.  I recently downsized and put together a small bedroom system along the same lines, but more power with SS amps so I could use any bookshelf I wanted to.  I also have a NAD 3020B for when I want a tube like sound.

Those MP301s I owned before drove every pair of speakers I ever hooked up, all bookshelf models, so I know
they have the power for my room.
Are there any new Sabre chip DACs out there that are inexpensive??

This one uses the not TOTL ES9023 chip, but it's cheap and cheerful.  Price: $69.00 + $9.99 for Asynchronous USB.

Or this unit from Audio GD, the NFB-11.32 32bit / 384K Asynchronous Transfer  USB-32 Chip
32bit / 192K Sabre ES9018 chip for $299.

I am running a 301 mk III.  Very happy with it.  It gets hot enough you can't hold your hand on it but I don't think it is excessive.  With different tubes it sounds great with my Altec Vals.  Not exactly book shelf speakers.

My new to me MP301 MKIII is running older Omega 3's with updated RS5 drivers for a used, cheap and cheerful system.  I just added an used ifi DSD DAC for another $160 shipped.  This system is amazingly detailed. If your into the microdetails this seems to bring it out with soundstage and imaging to boot.  Luckily the amp is far from my listening position so this summer I hope i can still use it without turning my cave into a sauna.

I have had my MP 301 MK 2 for two years now.  I run EL34-B power tubes with outstanding results.  Rated @ 6.5 watts the MP 301 will drive any speaker with high sensitivity.  I just love it.

I loved all mine too milford, if i buy one what tube configuration sounds best you think? Here is link, pick from his offerings as I may jump soon unless he'sgot a newer model coming. I'll email Gary and ask about newer offerings but you guys need to help me pick tubes. (I will get both power tube sets most likely.
