My thanks to everyone for the responses. I ordered one (4BSST²) this morning from my local dealer. He said it would take around two weeks to arrive. Looking forward to it.

spinner,

Is the factory, 100 hr. burn-in not enough for the sound to fully "mature"? If not, how long does it typically take?

A good start anyway. That trannie and power supply need time. lots of time. Minimum 400 hours. At 500 hours done no more changing. Yes it sounds good before just much better after time.

Well not really. the sound does take a few hours to settle in.The factory 'break in' is mainly to check if anything is going to break. And not really to do anything else.

My amp from memory did not change much. Though I leave mine on 24/7 as the first few hours from cold start are not as good (Mainly in treble response, and I am a treble nut) as left on all the time.

For break in we have found that 12 hours on and 12 hours off allows the dielectrics to settle. leaving it on playing for 24/7 does not allow for settling.  For best results after breaking in numerous products we have found 6 hours on and six hours off until you reach 400 hours is the most affective method we have used. Even better than our Pro Cable Cooker.
Be patient it will pay off. Most of all enjoy your wonderful product.
