I sure wish Vapor made a Nimbus jr, something in the 60-80 lbs range

We do have a new high-efficiency floorstander coming soon, bass to the low 40's and sensitivity around 93db.  They'll weigh around 120 pound each, cabinets will be stacked ply.

We don't/won't compromise on cabinet construction, plenty of other manufacturers out there who make flimsy MDF boxes.  Nimbus is high efficiency, to get good bass extension AND high efficiency, you must have a large box.  To make a large box that isn't compromised on construction, it must be heavy.  That's just the reality, I don't see us ever making a 60-80 pound floorstander ... our monitors weigh almost that much!

The new floorstander 'may' make an appearance at THE Vegas show, but likely we won't have it together in time.

What it'll be is a 44" tall or so floorstander based off the old Joule cabinets, but upscaled somewhat.  It'll be around 3 cu/ft total internal volume, what I'd call a mid-size floorstander.  Lots of curves however, stacked ply 'uber' construction - big roundovers, constrained layers, inversion layer, etc.  It'll have the RAAL 70-20 on top, a high efficiency 6.5" midrange, and a pair of high efficiency 8" woofers.  The design will go flat into the mid 40's, upper 30's in room.  And I think it'll end up being an honest 93db efficient, and able to handle loads of power if wanted.

We're targeting $7000/pair for these.

120 lbs. with a bum hip and knee moving 120 lbs is a pain but I might have to offer up a nice ribeye paired with a Imperial Stout or a nice wine  to get a pair setup. :)

If the new floor standing speaker does not make an appearance will it send a "stand in"?  In other words, will there be any Vapor Audio speakers at CES or T.H.E. Show?

I'm a new fan of the Vapor Audio Speakers. How about an update of your Derecho speaker. Maybe a picture? I'm in the process of auditioning speakers and the Derecho's description is what I'm looking for in a speaker. The Legacy Signature SE is at the top of my list. Actually I'm planning a trip to Springfield to audition the Signature speakers.  I see your in the St. Louis area maybe if you have a prototype of the Derecho I could stop by there on my way to Springfield?

At this point, the cabinet is only half assembled, but to give you an idea of how it will look, have a look at this picture of the original Joule.

Now, imagine the cabinet pushed lower to the floor with an additional 8" woofer below the 8" woofer shown.

When are you planning your trip Ponch?

Wow! Thanks for the response.  I have a class reunion the last weekend in June. I was planning on flying into St. Louis and renting a car and driving to Springfield than on to Indiana. I will have to make plans on stopping by your shop before I head to Springfield. Do you plan on altering the shape any from the original Joule? Little off topic but in the Air Force I was an Air Traffic Controller and we had to read the weather to the pilots all the time so I'm getting a kick from the names of your speakers.

Hi Ponch,

The only difference between that original Joule enclosure and the Derecho is that Derecho is about 10% larger all the way around and another woofer taller.  Otherwise, they'll have the exact same shape.

We'd love to have you stop by.  Derecho may still be around, but then again, someone may go ahead and get blown away by it and have it take them home.
