Why is it so hard to incorporate an unobtrusive selector switch into a preamp? Some preamps offer remote for volume, but not for source selection. Why is it so hard to make a selector switch remote controlled?

I am not an engineer but I think one of the problems has to do with how poorly simple cost effective relays perform. I think companies like placette audio that implement this effectively use much more expensive solutions with gold plated relays and others with optically controlled relays and such. I think some of it is due to the contact made by the relays being a poor mechanical/electrical contact or cross-talk added with these solutions. I think in short it can be done and done well but it is hard and more expensive so many audio manufacturers skip it since many audiofools like us haven't complained too much.
