Little help with setup please
« on: 20 Nov 2013, 11:46 pm »
Hi all,
Just got a bdp-1   With a br 2 remote.  Have the player up a running thru a Eastern Electric upgraded DAC plus. Very Favorable
Unfortunately I cannot get my IPad to control the unit. Have it hooked up to the network. Did the bryston-bdp-1.local. Recognized  the player. Downloaded the mpad app. No luck

Not sure on the remote either, there is no label for the bdp

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Russ

Hi Russ

Use the IP address rather than bryston-bdp-1.local

Works great with a 16 gig thumb drive. Not so much with a4 tb hdd

What about the remote? Is there a code I need to input?
Thanks,
Russ

Should not use more than a 2TB drive.

Hi Russ,

The remote needs to be in D/A mode before it'll control the player.  There should be several buttons startin from the right, preamp, CD player, D/A.

Regarding the 4TB hard drive, are you running the S1.73 firmware? Or something older?  Also does the hard drive appear under disk information in the settings page?  Would you happen to now what filesystem the hard drive is using?

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris,
Great tip on the remote.Looked all over for the info.
I am going to break this drive down anyways so not a big deal.  Running the latest firmware ( not beta).
Is typically 1 TB Hdd is when they become self powered? Looks like that can be  a factor for powering the USB drives.
So would  4 1 TB HDD be optimal?.
This is my first step in computer audio and for an old school analog guy can be a little confusing.
Thanks,
Russ

Hi,

A BDP-2 could power 4 hard drives with relative ease, a BDP-1 you might get it to power two drives.  If you worried about compatibility issues then your best bet would be 3.5" 2TB hard drives.  Or going with something likes western digital mybook live NAS and just plug everything into your network.  With a NAS hard drive compatibility is no longer an issue, there is a downside though; using a NAS does require a little setup and because it is a network device is more prone to breaking (software wise).  The benefit of the mybook live though is western digital has premade public shares.  So out of all of the nas's we have tested the. Are the easiest to get up and running.

Cheers
Chris
