iPad Battery Question
« on: 18 Dec 2013, 10:54 pm »
After updating to the first iOS7 offering my iPad 3 kept losing too much power overnight (10-12%).  After several updates from Apple it stabilized and seemed to be back to normal. Now I have developed a different battery problem and would like opinions on whether it is a bad battery or software issue.

My iPad is less than 2 years old and has not had extensive use or recharging.  It will charge to 100% and hold that charge for several days if not used.  Then usage and battery drain seem reasonable.  The issue is that the last two times the battery got into the 70% range it drained itself overnight. I mean totally dead.

I would think a bad battery would either not charge to 100% or would discharge rapidly after charging. Not hold a charge and then fall off a cliff.   I think it really is charging to 100% because the recharge time involved is what I have experienced in the past.

Thoughts and experiences please.

I would normally say that this sounds like a battery memory issue; but I don't recall if the battery tech used in an iPad is prone to forming a memory.

Jerry,

Thanks for the response and for reminding me that I should have mentioned that I always take the battery all the way down to nada before recharging. I read in the Apple instructions that was necessary (or maybe almost to zero) for the memory display to be accurate.

I thought those batteries don't have the memory issues like batteries of yore.  I may be mistaken.  I use my sons ipad2 with os7 and have not noticed this issue.  Make sure your aps are in order ie that they are not checking location, fetching data, etc all the time.  You have to check these from time to time especially if someone else uses it or after ap updates.  Still from 70% to 0 over night does not sound right.  I would make sure you have the latest update ot ios, check your settings thoroughly and reboot the pad then check your settings again (anything that would be fetching data).
