A new guy

Hello all :-)

After much debate, and some mails with Danny,  I've pulled the trigger on my first diy speaker kits  :thumb:

It started out just wanting to get some better speakers for my hobby woodworking shop,  and ended up with a total upgrade for my HT as well
I've finally settled on A/V-3 mains, a A/V-3S center and A/V-1RS surrounds. All upgraded with SoniCaps and will use NoRez.

Like Todd (greenklein), I had a hard time deciding on which towers to go for. The A/V-3s won out as a good compromise, and I liked the total package with the matching center and surrounds. These speakers will be replacing a Paradigm 7seMk3 setup, which I never was really happy with.  I'll recycle the Paradigm sub, which I have been happy with.  All will be driven by a Pioneer VSX-1018AH receiver.

I have a full workshop and lots of furniture building experience,  but this will be a bit new for me.  I have never done any veneer work before, but am looking forward to adding that to my list.  I am sure I will be here many times looking for advice    After corresponding with Danny, and lurking on this forum, I can agree with the 'family' sentiment,  and would be happy to be a part of it.

Oh yeah.... and I also ordered an X-LS Encore kit for the shop !  :thumb:

Cheers,  Scott

That is what's most needed in speaker building... :green:

I may be following in your footsteps!  Still trying to decide on the towers...may have to figure out a reason to build the X-LS encores as well.  People really seem to love them.  I look forward to reading about your build.  I agree with you about lurking on this forum.  It made for an easy decision what company to buy from...now for the decision...

The X-LS Encores are for the shop....and unfinished MDF cabinets will fit right in   Here's where they're going.  If you look hard , you'll see the JVC speakers.
I can be listening to those while I do the finer job on the HT speakers.  Or,  I can experiment a bit with veneer and finishes on them.
I'm mostly busy with rebuilding my house after being hit hard with the June floods,  so the speaker build will be on and off as I can fit it in.
