help me for Bryston 9B SST
« on: 24 Jul 2013, 08:24 pm »
Hello to all fans of the audiophile:

I apologize for my English, is a Google translation.

Appreciate to help me for solve a problem that occurred to me last night. I went to my room to relax listening to audio CDs and some when I turned on my pre / pro SP2 and Bryston 9B SST, the latter simply did not turn on, no LED lit and no sound made.

I tried various ways, I checked the outlet electric current, the electric cord, turning off the amplifier, pushing the 'SST POWER' switch, switched on the rear of the Power-Up (Local / Auto) and External Control voltage power up (Local / external switch.), unplugged and plugged the external voltage control cable.... and nothing.

That may be happening? As I can solve? The 9B SST is  240 volt, 50Hz version.

From already thank you very much,

Hi, I found the trigger system is not working and has brought me these problems. At the moment I turn it on using the switch on the front of the amplifier.

At least I can listen and enjoy.
Thanks for your interest.

Try replacing the 12 volt trigger wire. It can be any two wire cord. replace it.
Maybe it is broken internally.
The ends for the 12 volt trigger come off the equipment, and just fit on any stripped wire and screw down. (keep the plus / minus of the wire at each end correct.)
I use low voltage wire for 12 volt lawn lighting. My 12 volt trigger wire is 20 feet long.
Good luck.
i hope this is clear in translation.

James (from Bryston) might be able to help you out.

James, are you reading this?

P.S. Elizabeth just above offered a valid suggestion.  ...Mono cable (for the trigger wire); not stereo (just in case).

* Enrique, welcome!

Yes please check with Mike at Bryston as the 12 volt trigger requires a sequence of switches to make it work.  mpickett@bryston.com

I had a similar issue with a 110V 9BSST which I resolved (by accident) when I moved to Europe and had to rewire the 9BSST for 220V. (Thanks to Bryston for supplying the diagrams).

The symptoms I had were that the remote trigger would not work all the time. I guess when the large AC appliances were on (air con, laudry machine and dryer), the trigger would fail. It happened rarely enough so that while annoying, I ignored it.

To listen I'd have to reconfigure it to local, and it worked via the front switch.

When rewiring 9BSST to 220V it stopped working at all. So I spent an afternoon learning the diagram - The 9BSST has a soft start circuit to prevent the toroid transformers from blowing your household fuse box, that would prevent it from turning on if the line circuit voltage happened to be too low. As it turned out, the house I lived in had old wiring and the mains voltage would fluctuate.

I just had to adjust the threshold (VR1) to spec (with the aid of a variac and Fluke) and all the problems were resolved.

My trigger wire from my BP-26 to my 4B-SST² is definitely a pair of wires, and not one wire.

I appreciate all the help and interest in my hobby. I'm a first-timer in this of the forums in general and English hurts me a lot.

Prove first that which is replacing the cable reléase for two mono conductor separates, the which a parallel cable to speakers.

If it is not talk to Mike at Bryston.

Again a million  thanks for yours time.

Sincerely,
