Nexus 7 Tab
« on: 28 Jun 2012, 11:51 pm »
Hmm, the Nexus 7 tablet unveil by Google sounds like a cheap and cheerful addition and at that price its very, very affordable.  Love Apple but Android is slowly creeping up on them, especially in the price comparison market or affordability status.   Any thoughts?

The google tablet manufactured by Asus is not a competitor to the iPad but to the Kindle.  The Surface seems more interesting, much more interesting.  Developer point of view, I find the Surface to have much potential for growth.

You got me curious as to how (in keeping with the intent of this circle) the Nexus 7 can be used for music playback. With max 16 GB (I believe) it doesn't have a lot of storage, but anyway can USB be used to connect to a DAC?

Google is coming out w lots of goodies for air play options, google air play I do believe.  Also, they have lots of options coming out.  Personally, I think that the Ipad is highly overrated. Yes its a good device but it feels like a huge Iphone to me and I love Apple products, having an Iphone and a Macbook Pro should suffice but to pay almost PC price for a pad is totally ridiculouse to me...  But thats just me  :nono:

** Nexus 7 with Android 4.1 may very be able to use its USB output for audio...I read somewhere thats possible. I recently got an ASUS TF300 the latest 10" tablet like the prime spec wise in 95% of all areas and if the Nexus performs like it-both use the same processor-it will kill the competition.

Amazon needs to unveil its next one like NOW!!! to stay close with the locked down version they sell. These 4.0 Android tablets are so easy to use....I think Android will be if not already neck and neck with Windows ? and Apple IOS ?.

I'll be getting the keyboard dock so I'll have an Android Laptop/Tablet and a Windows Laptop. Its happening all over, people are discovering Android and its ease of use. Interesting times ahead!!!!!

--PS the ASUS I have using the headphone out with IEM's or conventional headphones sounds excellent in its stock form and has software built in that enables me to stream my entire music collection through the tablet for listening. Storage off site or in Cloud is where its going I think. I wonder how the sound is from the Google Glasses???...LOL. 8) 8)

Does anyone have experience using a 7 inch tablet just as a remote/controller/UI? Thinking of getting one in addition to my SB Touch and for running JRiver remote. My biggest gripe about the SBTouch is that from 10 feet away the screen is too small to be of practical use.

Wondering if a 7 inch screen would be enough for this. Obviously a 10 inch tablet would be, but since I only want it for the above purpose, I'd love to save the price difference.

I have used my buddies 7" on my system controlling a SB. Worked great but I prefer my 10" ACER Iconia as a dedicated (sort of) SB remote. I have since obtained a second device, the Asus I mentioned above. The thing is how fast the unit finds and hooks into the SB from a cold start. I find its easier if I start the SB with the remote the first play and then let the tablet find the server-BINGO!! Its fabulous, I can surf  the web, do email, pic a song, see whats on TV, pick another tune, etc.... Its all so easy and with MOG my choice of music is unlimited. Highly recommend!!! :thumb:

The reason for the 16gb storage is Google is all about could services.  Their Music service streams your music from the cloud but if you need extra storage you can certainly hook up a usb stick or external hdd....I'll be getting one for sure.  I'm loving the size and the updated 4.1 Jelly Bean OS is just awesome,  been running it on my Galaxy Nexus.

Something interesting that I found online and wanted to share this individuals point of view so I copied and pasted his quote on my threat.  Please chime in if you cared to but I figured this individuals statement merit some attn...  See below!

I think it was expected that eventually apple domination on both tablet and smartphone are going to decline sepcially because of Google, Amazon, Samsung plus many others. However the 3 mentioned are produced my big tech companies on the rise with each of them offering differnet options (Android in Samsund is not the same as in amazon). For example if we take amazon. THey will offer cheap but reliable products as well as as soon as they enter the market they have huge app because Amazon has it own store plus google play store, that gives them an excellent chance that they will eat into Apple plus the others. IN a way next year it won't be just apple aginst samsung (android), as many player will join the market such as MS window 8 and even Firefox is ready to release it's trukt open OS, as android strictly speaking is not open, and although any company can install Android even with out google permision, because of a patency issue they actually have to get the "go ahead" from Microsoft and pay them some percentage. Google dose not have control over it's android but what driving them to expand the android to as many companies as possible, that because google rely on advert. Apple has to come up with a new product if they want to continue the same level of grwoth because the market will be saturated with tablets and smartphone, and the cheap ones will do well in Asia and part of Europe.I am sure that Steve Jobs has made plans which may sustain Apple growth for years to come, at the same time, I am also sure that part of the plan will involve new product such as Apple TV or Apple cars . It is all part of Jobs vision of creating an ecosystem, the only question is that so far teh new CEO did not lunch an entirly new hard ware products and it will be intresting to see what will he introduce and will it have "the Jobs factor" I think this step will determine apple future, new product and not the New Ipad or Iphone 5 , yes they will sell but if able does not follow Jobs ecosystem strategy, the will end up being Microsoft suring the past decade, Share not moving plus in 2000 MS market share was worth $600 billion cpmared to around $ 200 billion in todays market. IT seems that people forgot how MS dominated its sector and appared invincible. The same could happen to Apple if they don't creat a new procuct which will add to the company growth and profibility.

There is expected to be a new model announced this month, and a couple places have started discounting the current model.
