Klaus -- can you elaborate on "the vast majority of synergy goes with the amp / speaker combo....?" How do you match your amp with your speakers? Thanks.

Last and not least important factors which has not been focused on so far and to be taken into account when matching amps/speakers are:
SPEAKER CABLES:

Select a couple of your best CDs you are mostly familiar with and test/audition them in a week's time with four/five pairs of different brand
speakear cables.
In the long run this will help you, too; in addition to what has been kindly recommended by Klaus !

I use an Audible Illusions Modulus 3A tube preamp with my Stereo Stratos Extreme Plus+++ amp and it sounds incredible.

I got to say, I really love the sound of my Stratos Extreme mono's paired up with my Audible Illusions 3B.
When asked, "How does it sound?" I pull out my never fail, cant miss records

The smoothness of the tube preamp coupled with the lightning fast impact of the Odyssey amps quite simply "Blows people away".
This basic system just plain works. Synergistic would be a way to describe it.
I think a tube preamp works fantastic with the Odyssey amps.

I agree 100%.  I use a Modulus 3B tube preamp with my Stratos stereo Extreme +++ and the synergy is incredible.  I use the Groneberg cable between my preamp and amp and their speaker cable from the amp to my Kismet reference speakers.  Every time I listen to my system, I just can't believe how everything gels together.
