Garrard 100 Zero sc table
« on: 26 Jun 2013, 09:37 pm »
I have an opportunity to acquire a Garrard 100 Zero SC that, from all accounts, seems to be in excellent condition.  Wood plinth, arm, platter, even the acrylic cover are in immaculate condition.  No cart.  However, I have no idea what its value might be, therefore, no point of departure to make an offer.  Would welcome a more learned opinion.   Thank you!

I have a chip on my shoulder over Zero 100s in general. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

The Garrard Zero 100 was the last insane gasp of a dying company. For every needed part on a turntable, the Zero 100 has at least five.
Just the platter is made up of a dozen parts. all for no damn reason too.
The arm is the same. a kinky idea only Yamaha also tried. Too bad the Garrard Zero 100 execution SUCKS. All the parts which keep the arm aligned are wanky, and get loose fast, and are totally unable to be tightened up.
Then the changer mechanism. Compared to a nice Dual, the garrard is a masterwork of crap. Wayyyy too many parts nearly impossible to work on under the body.
So if it is not working perfectly. FORGET the thought of EVER getting it to work properly.

I had THREE I finally threw in the trash. really!! One of the biggest chunks of garbage ever made.
I had a Garrard Lab 80 as a teen, so i liked Garrard.. But the Zero 100 is a mishmash of dog poo on a stick.
Gee did i come across as too harsh???

Anyway one working but NOT the changer is worth about $50. So if ALL the functions work, and the arm is tight.. it is worth about (in todays insane market) $150. The arm really has to be TIGHT and zero wobble of ANY kind for it to be worth ANYTHING. Any sort of play and forget it. (yeah see if it twists with a little help, it should NOT, but will. LOL)

I'm not saying buy one, but I will say based on the experience of the one
I've owned for 40 years I think it's a fine turntable.
Don't know why mine doesn't invoke the emotions of previous posters but
it's given very good service.
Maybe I have one out of a better production run or something, don't know.
