I am not feeling my vinyl playback these days - revisited

What's new since I posted back in May that I wasn't finding my vinyl playback involving?  Well, a bunch.

I moved to Chicago from LA.  Chicago is a great city.  I'm totally digging it.

I bought the Sumiko BPS Evo III.  And the Sumiko headshell.  The Evo is great.  The headshell was too heavy with the Evo so I'm using the Technics headshell.  Ahh.

I bought the Modwright Monolithic HC-1b external power supply.  Hmm, can't hear that much difference.  I have the Revelation Audio cryo'd silver power umbilical on order.  Should be here next week or so.

I bought a PS Audio Power Director 3.5 and got a 2m Plus power cord for free with it.

Okay, with all those changes, I'm now digging on the playback.  What an improvment.

After I get some cash coming in, I'm going to go for the Rega arm with the Incognito wiring.  I know that will take it to a whole new level.  And if I ever get rid of my 1200, I can always use the arm and cart on my next deck.  Win-win I say.

I'm hoping that something will kick lose as the HC-1b breaks in.  I'm going to listen to it in place for a few weeks, then take it out to see if I notice anything missing.  Sometimes with these Bybees it's not that you hear anything more, it's that you hear less, if you know what I mean.

As to what I'm listening to these days.  Well, since I live only a few miles from Music Direct now, I went down to visit them.  Big ass warehouse.  Some nice bit o' kit to listen to.  Easy home auditioning (no shipping, yeah!).  I bought the 30th anniversary edittion of DSOTM and Alison Kraus & Union Station's So Long So Wrong.  Both sound fantastic.  Highly recommended.

Bought some used LPs in LA before I moved and just got around to cleaning them.  Ella Fitzgerald sings Gershwin (good), The Cult Electric (haven't heard this stuff in 15 years and it still holds up marvelously). Doobies The Captain and Me (still awesome after 31 years!!!)

More in a few weeks on the Monolithic pair.  L8r

DogBerry, welcome to the "BEST CITY" in the USA!! :D If you want to know what's going on in Chi-Town pick up a FREE Reader Newspaper. For good used vinyl go to Reckless Records on Milwaukee Ave or Dave's records on Clark. For Jazz check out the Jazz Record Mart on Wabash. I also visit Music Direct quite often. Good guys over there.. There's great live music all over the city. Check out the Green Mill for Jazz. That's Capone's old hangout. Also you can see Patricia Barber and Kurt Elling live for around $7.00 a show.. Welcome and enjoy the City of Chicago
